This just seems foolish. Promoting safe sex in Africa is a pretty logical way to reduce the spread of AIDS. I suppose the Pope’s proposal is just to pray for things to get better, but I would suggest that condoms are the answer to that prayer (at least in part).

With Nomar coming on board, the A’s feel a lot deeper and more mature than they have in a while. Hopefully, some of these elder statesmen (Orlando Cabrera, Giambi, Nomar) can help the younger guys develop a bit faster. While Nomar doesn’t really make the A’s that much better, I somehow feel more optimistic today than I did after the OC signing. This offseason has seen the...
OC to Oaktown - Seems Like a Good Deal →
Cabrera is cheap, offers better offense than Crosby and has better range than Crosby. Is this enough to keep up with the Angels? Doubtful, but I’m optimistic.

Shockingly cheap. This is bad news for the green and gold.

Sounds like MLB’s offering a pretty great upgrade to their online video package. I’ve been an “Extra Innings” subscriber through my cable provider the last few years, but this might be the year I switch to the online version.
Maybe She *Needs* a Micro-Manager After All
I heard about a young woman in NYC interviewing for a job. When asked what type of manager she would like to work for, she responded, “I don’t want to be ‘microsoft managed.’” Oy.

Wedding Band: Recovered
With the help of my loving wife and a metal detector, I found my ring in under 30 minutes of searching. What a relief!
(Thanks to Taylor Rental for the detector.)
Wedding Band: Lost
I lost my wedding band in a snowdrift yesterday, so I’m renting a metal detector today. Wish me luck!

Cross Country Trade - Baseball Musings. A’s may be considering trading Daric Barton for Nick Johnson. Interesting. Not sure I like it, but I’m always willing to give Billy Beane the benefit of the doubt.

Baseball Musings: Corky Recants
If you “forget” to include Rickey Henderson on your Hall of Fame ballot, you should not be allowed to vote ever again. Rickey is one of the best baseball players of all time, and his election to the HOF should be unanimous. There is no reasonable argument for leaving him off your ballot. http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/030620.php

I realize that 2008 was a pretty crappy year for a lot of people, but for me, it was darn good. The highlights include the birth of my first child (a beautiful, happy daughter), getting into a handful of top business schools, moving to Boston, starting at HBS and making a ton of great new friends. And my old company is doing pretty well, even in this tough economic environment. I’ve been...

Baseball Musings: Bronx Bombers
I’m curious to see how a team scoring nearly 6 runs a game DOESN’T win the world series, but I’m sure the Yankees will educate us. http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/030497.php
ESPN: Teixeira takes Yanks' 8-year deal
The Yankees now have the four highest paid players in baseball. Will it be enough to get them back to the world series? I’ll wait until Nate Silver runs the numbers, but I’m sure they’ll be a good team. That is until the playoffs roll around and A-rod and CC start choking… http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?w=17xvn&storyId=3790141&i=TOP
